Our grass at the soccer world championship in South Africa

10 match stadiums and a series of training pitches will be ready for the 32 teams from all over the world, who will compete to win world championship in soccer in South Africa. The main supplier of grass seed to be sown on the numerous stadiums will be DLF-TRIFOLIUM.

The grass gets stars at Agromek

DLF-TRIFOLIUM is introducing a new way of looking at grass quality at this year’s Agromek in Herning, Denmark, on 24-28 of November. The new forage quality index gives the grass 1-5 stars in three separate categories - Feed, Field and Yield performance. This allows the farmer to estimate the forage quality in an easy  way and make the feeding diet more accurate.

You will also find news about iSeed® - the fertiliser coating on grass seed, new varieties of Tall Fescue and Festulolium, silage making of fodder beets, seeds for game cover and of course the whole range of ForageMax mixtures for all purposes.

Silver medal

The French version of Doctor Turf has received a silver medal at the French convention Journée des plantes de Courson. The medal was given for the Eco-Alternative with Microclover. During the exhibition Topgreen also celebrated the rebirth of the Maison de Gazons (Doctor Turf) range of home garden lawn seed by arranging a press tea-time on the stand. Read more.

New PhD at Hladke Zivotice

Breeder Libor Jaluvka has successfully espoused his PhD thesis at the Mendel university of agriculture and forestry Brno, Faculty of Agronomy. Libor started to work at Hladke Zivotice in 2003 as a Red Clover breeder and is at present responsible for the breeding of diploid Red Clover and Bromegrass for the DLF Group.

He started his PhD study in 2004 with the theme "Verification of efficiency of three Red Clover breeding methods in different locations". His main goal was to find the most efficient breeding method for Red Clover in different climatic conditions. The results and conclusions from Libor's work are already used in our practical Red Clover breeding.

Relaunch of Maison des Gazons

Maison des Gazons has just been relaunched for the French consumer market at the exhibition Les Journées des Plantes at Courson, just south of Paris. Les Journées des Plantes is an exhibition with special focus on flowers and gardens. Maison des Gazons is luxury lawn grass for home gardens in France. The mixture range consists of eight different mixtures covering the specific needs of the consumer.

Nostalgic farming and future research meet

Old barns and a worn cow house have been renewed and transformed into a modern research and breeding facility now housing the Dutch DLF/Innoseeds breeding team.

The buildings still breathe the atmosphere of a century ago. In the living rooms there are still the bedsteads, chimneys and the door latches are original from wood. This is where Thieu Pustjens and his team consisting of 8 people now carry out their research activities to ensure a future delivery of high quality turf and forage grass varieties.

The Moerstraten research and breeding station is a vital element of the DLF-TRIFOLIUM Group’s strategy to consolidate all parts of the Dutch breeding programme at one place. The company has already been using the area around Moerstraten for breeding and multiplication of its varieties, and has very good experiences with the local soil quality and climate. Furthermore, the breeding station is only half an hour’s drive from DLF-TRIFOLIUM’s facilities in Kapelle and Vlijmen. Read more.

DLF-RUSSIA - New Head of office

We are very pleased to announce that we have appointed Steen Andersen as our new Head of Rep. Office in Moscow. He will start in his position on 24th August 2009. Steen Andersen has up to his employment with DLF worked as director in LLC Skiold Russia/area manager in Skiold A/S, where he has been in charge of establishing the Skiold subsidiary in Russia as well as of the day-to-day management.

Steen Andersen has an Msc in Agronomy, and has throughout his career worked for the Agricultural Advisory Centre. He has also worked as a sales representative and manager in the IT industry for companies like Maersk Data and Logica. In addition, Steen Andersen has a MBA focusing on change management. Steen Andersen will follow an intro programme in Denmark, and subsequently he will return to Russia where he will be introduced to our Russian customers. As from 1st October 2009, he will be assigned the responsibility for our Moscow office, and will be directly responsible to Søren Halbye, Chief Commercial Officer.

New Commercial Director in Czech Republic

We are pleased to inform you that we have employed Dusan Kyselý, aged 41, as our new Commercial Director for Plant Breeding Station Hladké Zivotice. He will join our company on 1 August and will be in charge of production and sales.

Dusan has an educational background within management, having e.g. an MBA in business economics and strategic management. Until 2008, Dusan was responsible for starting up and developing the food business BERSI counting 160 employees. Since the sale of the company, he has worked as development consultant for a company in the Czech Republic dealing with agricultural machinery.

Vladimir Cernoch will continue as Managing Director and as responsible for our breeding activities in the Czech Republic.

DLF supplier to The World Equestrian Games 2010

The World Equestrian Games are the world championships for eight equestrian sports recognized by the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI), and are held every four years. DLF International Seeds in the US will provide the grass seed for the cross country course of the Kentucky Horse Park. The course will be used during the Games for the Endurance competition, the cross country phase of Eventing competition, and the marathon phase of the Driving competition. Read more.

New second to none forage variety listed in Germany

BOYNE - our brand new intermediate diploid perennial ryegrass variety - has now been approved in Germany. The yield figures went from rel. 104 to rel.112 during the three test years and have made BOYNE the highest yielding variety. Good rust resistance combined with high yields also during the summer makes it the ultimate choice for farmers. Also the perennial ryegrass varieties OVAMBO1, intermediate 4n, and MOKARI, late diploid, have also been approved for listing together with white clover VIOLIN.

15-20 percent more forage with Festulolium

The 2008 trials with Festulolium at the Danish Agricultural Advisory Service once again proved that varieties from DLF-TRIFOLIUM create remarkable results. Achilles and Perseus , two Festuloliums of the ryegrass type, produced respectively 15 and 20 percent more forage in the second and third year of harvest, compared to Perennial ryegrass. Density and spring green up with Microclover 

Demo trials established late autumn 2008 at DLF-TRIFOLIUM's research facilities in France clearly show the benefit of having Microclover in the lawn grass mixtures. The trial is fertilised with 200 kg N/ha, and as the photo illustrates the plots containing Microclover still show the very best density and spring green up in March 2009.

New Sales Manager in Moscow

DLF-TRIFOLIUM has engaged Mr. Evgeny Kotov at the DLF Moscow office from 2nd February 2009 and will be responsible for sales to our customers in Belarus, Kazakhstan and selected Russian customers.

Evgeny Kotov is 33 years old, married and has a university degree in Agronomy and Economy from Moscow Agricultural Academy of Timiryazev. He has great insight in our business, which he has acquired during his work in the company “Russian Seed” as sales and purchase manager of grass seeds.

Recently Evgeny has worked as manager in IKEA before choosing to start working for DLF-TRIFOLIUM.

Conduct with varieties from RSM 2009

Intensive breeding at DLF-TRIFOLIUM results in 17 new varieties on the actual RSM list, which is the German list for quality turf.

A new top scoring Tall fescue variety - DEBUSSY 1.

Also six new Red fescues with three comutatas - SMETANA, TROVILLE and WAGNER 1. TROVILLE is the new top variety with the highest score of 9 for wear.

The new Festuca rubra trichophylla varieties are AMARONE, PAGANINI 1 and VALDORA. These varieties show the breeding progress of DLF varieties for both lawn and wear.

The new top Perennial varieties are GREENSKY and PASSION combined with the two varieties ESQUIRE and TROYA in the middle segment.

Our new set of choral arrangements is the new top Poa pratensis varieties MOZART 1 and RAVEL 1. It is hard to compare these two, because how can you compare the genius MOZART with impressionist RAVEL?!

General Manager in Argentina

In order to strengthen our connection with customers in South America we have decided to establish sales office in Buenos Aires.

Due to this we have employed Maximino Borsi as General Manager to our new representative office; DLF Seeds, South America.

Maximino Borsi is 43 years old, married and is educated as Agronomical Engineer from the Agricultural Sciences School.

Maximino Borsi has since 2000 been employed by BASF Argentina as Regional Marketing Manager being engaged in sales and marketing as well in research and development for new products in the Agricultural Division of BASF.
